We finished off a very successful Catholic Schools Week! Thank you to all the parents that came out to celebrate parent night with us. This week we are continuing our unit on "Our Great Big World." We have studied Europe and South America and this week we start North America. In math we continue our addition and subtraction unit with word problems and missing addend equations. In social studies we will be learning about a map. We will be thinking about the continents, countries, states, towns and streets that we live on.

We had a fun week in KB! We had a visitor from the discovery museum and learned about sound! In math we learned about word problems and practiced identifying key words. We finished out Kindness week with a Kindness quilt!Today we kicked off kindness week with our door decorating! We read a story about wild race cars that run on kind thoughts and actions! We decorated our own race cars and thought about ways to make our cars go.
We have been so busy in KB! This week we are finishing up all our units! In reading we are finishing up learning about famous Americans. We learned all about Martin Luther King Jr. and his dream to treat others equally. In math we are working on decomposing numbers and writing out number sentences to solve addition and subtraction problems. In science we started a new unit on the sun's energy! Today we left water and sand under a lamp (the sun) to see what would happen. We recorded the temperature at the beginning and the end. We are excited to share our sun energy unit with you on parent night!
Welcome Back! I hope everyone enjoyed the Christmas vacation. We are jumping right back into school in KB. This week we continue with our Famous Americans unit by studying George Washington Carver. We will be talking about nonfiction text and working on close reading skills. In math we are practicing decomposing numbers and will be talking about sorting objects based on different attributes. In science we are starting a brand new unit on Energy! We will be looking at how the sun gives energy.
Busy week ahead and getting ready for vacation! This week we will be working on decomposing numbers 9-6. We will be coming up with all the different ways to make numbers using addition sentences. We will be continuing our Famous Americans unit with Amelia Earhart! We are wrapping up our unit on matter, solids, liquids, and gases. In Fundations we will be working on writing upper case letters. This week we are creating our Nativity boxes. Today we added the animals and talked about the innkeeper.
Another busy week! This week we are learning about tapping out (sounding out) CVC words. We practice saying each sound and blending the sounds together to make words. We also are practicing ABC order. In reading we have been studying Abraham Lincoln. We are working on writing 2-3 sentences and facts we learned from the book. We continue learning about verbs, too. In Science we are continuing with our solid and liquid unit. We read the story "Bartholomew and the OOBLECK" and tomorrow we will make our own oobleck. In Math we continue our measurement unit with weight. Today we practiced weighing different groups of objects in the balance scales. Tomorrow we will start decomposing numbers and writing addition sentences.( ie. 10= 9+1, 8+2, 7+3.....). In social studies we extend our famous Americans unit and learn about making a timeline and looking for locations on a map. In religion we have been learning about Advent and the Advent promises. We will also begin learning about the Nativity as we make our own nativity scenes.
We have finished all of our letter sounds in fundations! Next week we will be working on tapping out letters and sounding out words! In reading we are learning about George Washington. We read a book, wrote, and used our retelling skills. Our reading unit carries into social studies where we are learning about timelines, sequencing, and different places in the country. In Science we continue to learn about solids, liquids, and gases. We have learned the states of matter and practiced sorting different objects. Next is to watch objects change state! Advent has started! This week we talked about prayer using our five fingers, waiting for Jesus during advent, and the symbols we see. Please remember to send in a shoe box for your child's nativity scene!
Check out our water walking experiment! We had to come up with a way to move the water from one glass into an empty one without touching the glasses. We also made a rainbow.
Today we started new units! In reading we will be talking about famous Americans. Today we learned all about Betsy Ross. In math we started talking about measurement. We learned the words short, tall, shortest, tallest, length and height. In religion we learned about making the sign of the cross. We are almost done with the alphabet in Fundations. Today we learned the letter y. In science we will be studying states of matter.
