We have had a very busy week in KB! In math we are reviewing all of our 2D and 3D shapes. We continue to work on different centers to explore the features of shapes. In reading we have been researching birds. We are talking about the characteristics and different types of birds. In science we have been exploring habitats. The children are working in groups to research and build their own habitat. Mrs. White came into the classroom to teach the children a game as an introduction to coding! We loved playing Daisy the Dinosaur on the iPads.

Today we continued creating our Elephant Brochures in reading, we learned about the cylinder in math, and we brainstormed everything we know about a habitat. This week we will continue researching elephants. We are becoming animal experts! In math we are exploring all 3D shapes. In science we are starting a habitat unit. We will be exploring and building our own animal habitats.
This week in reading we are talking about whales! We will complete another "research book" to document all of our learning! In math we are exploring shapes and geometry. We are working on 2D and 3D shapes, counting sides, edges, faces, and corners, finding shapes around the classroom, drawing and building them. In science, we are learning all about plant and animal needs. This week we are dissecting a lima bean, planting seeds and placing them in different parts of the classroom, and caring for our lima bean plants. In religion we are learning about the Holy Family and talking about Mary.
We have been very busy in Kindergarten! In reading we have moved on to studying plants. This week we are talking about the plant life cycle and everything that plants need to survive. On Thursday in science we will be planting our own seeds! In math we are starting our unit on geometry. We will be learning all about 2d and 3d shapes. In religion we will be talking all about Mary for the month of May.
We are off to a great week in KB! Our new unit this week is all about Frogs! We will be completing research projects about Frogs and learning about the life cycle. In math we are continuing to explore place value and fact fluency. Can you believe we are working with hundreds? In religion this week we are talking about the Bible and characters from the Old Testament. In fundations we started sentence dictation. We are learning about the parts of a sentence and the order of the words. Dont' forget! We have our field trip to the discover museum on Friday! Sure to be a great time!
Finally a sunny day and we could play on the playground! Today we started our insect research projects on insects! Some children are working on dragonflies, some on ants, and others on ladybugs! In math we are continuing with place value, we have started exploring the hundreds place! In religion we finished up the stations of the cross just in time for us to go to the living stations on Wednesday. In science this week we will be exploring the 6 simple machines. There will be lots of STEM projects!
We are starting all new units in kindergarten! In fundations we are learning about letter digraphs. We needed a lot of practice with the "th" sound! In math we are learning about place value. We have started exploring tens rods and ones cubes, drawing numbers, and writing out the expanded form. In reading we are starting our unit on insects! Today we brainstormed what we know and want to learn about insects. We started our book on insect detectives. In religion we started learning about the stations of the cross. Today we talked about the first two stations.
I hope everyone enjoyed our snow days! Today was a very busy day back at school. In reading this week we are wrapping up our continents unit. Today we wrote postcards from our pretend class vacation in Antarctica. We finished up with our missing addend and word problem centers and tomorrow we will start learning all about place value. In religion we brainstormed why grandparents are important and special to us. In fundations we learned about digraphs. Today we talked about the sound sh.
What a busy first day back! The children were very excited to be back in school today! Lots of smiles walking through the door. Today we continued our geography unit and learned about Australia. We read the story "Possum Magic" and talked about many different types of food. In math we continued learning about missing addends. We practiced addition and subtraction strategies. In science we started our new unit on push and pull. We made a brainstorm about how we can show push and pull. In religion we talked about how we can prepare and follow Jesus during Lent. We reviewed the terms almsgiving, prayer, and fasting.
